Tony Cascarino has backed Manchester City to finish the Premier League season 10 points clear of second place, suggesting they will have the title as good as wrapped up by the beginning of December!
City went clear at the top of the table on Saturday, following their incredible 7-2 thrashing of Stoke City. Manchester United, previously level with their cross-city rivals, fell two points behind having failed to defeat Liverpool at Anfield.
Both sides have had relatively easy starts to the campaign, though while United failed with their first tough test – being held by Liverpool – City have already made light work of the Reds, as well as Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola’s side are putting in the kind of performances that have fans calling them the greatest ever Premier League team, and while there are doubts about United’s true strength, the feeling is City will be able to overcome any opponent with ease.
This is the belief Cascarino shares, with the former Chelsea forward backing City to finish the season 10 points clear of any other side.
Not only that, he also feels Guardiola’s team will basically wrap up the Premier League title in December, when they head to Old Trafford to take on United.
Cascarino expects City to beat their local rivals, signalling the end of the title fight before the turn of the year.
“I would have City 10 points clear of everyone at the end of the season,” Cascarino told the Weekend Spots Breakfast.
“Personally I think, by the 9th December, when City go to Old Trafford and they get a result, the league will already be done and dusted.
“Look at United’s games coming up; Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and City…
“They [United] are going to drop points. And City are going to get a lot of points in that time.
“And I think City are capable of going to Old Trafford and winning the game. But I think they’ll have a handy lead by the 9th December.”
